Moncler’s Green Army

Moncler Grenoble A/W 2013

Moncler Grenoble debuted its Autumn/Winter 2013 collection at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall recently. Jumpset was on hand to view the presentation and can emphatically declare that it was stunning. In a fashion that we’ve come to expect from the luxury sporting brand, an army of 370 models wearing the Moncler skiwear was assembled in a tiered theatre in the round. In this case, the audience was at the center, flipping the traditional relationship and lending a sinister touch. A mirror overhead reflected the green kaleidoscope below as a powerful selection of battle music from Daft Punk’s Tron, Star Wars and Aphex Twin pulsed throughout. Catch a video short of the show below.

Opening Ceremony x Adidas

Opening Ceremony x Adidas shot by Josh Olins

The go-to fashion boutique, Opening Ceremony, has teamed up with Adidas Originals for a unisex capsule collection of 70 pieces in time for the summer Olympics. Retro-influenced bandana, floral and graffiti prints lend the collection a healthy dose of street style. The designers sourced the sporty silhouettes from swim and cycling kits which also feature a range of active fabrics including dry-swim spandex, neoprene, nylon twills, and reflective finishes.

The collaboration kicks-off the opening of OC’s Covent Garden pop-up shop, with a larger one to come this fall. The collection is also available in the downtown NYC store and online.

Moncler FW2012 Takes to the Ice

Moncler FW2012_00

We can always count on Moncler Grenoble to give us an imaginative fashion show and FW2012 did not disappoint. As a follow up to its flashmob presentation in Grand Central Station last year, the Italian outerwear brand took to the ice in perfect form for New York Fashion Week. With a dusting of snow on the ground, Central Park’s Wollman Rink was the perfect setting to show off its cold-weather collection of ski jackets, leg warmers, sweaters, gloves and puffy vests. Professional athletes – 180 of them – were teamed up for three monochrome segments of blue, red and white/gray against a backdrop of city lights. Here are a few more images of the event and collection from last Sunday night.

Grand Slam at NY Fashion Film Festival

Photographers, filmmakers, fashion insiders and students from SVA’s Graduate Photography Department recently gathered to celebrate the 2nd New York Fashion Film Festival and the increasing collusion between the two art forms. The opening piece (and a personal favorite) was a short film by Matthew Donaldson called Sooyeon Lee: Grand Slam. Donaldson highlights the Korean table tennis champion’s elegance and technique as only slow-motion can. Katie Shillingford styled looks by Versace, Jil Sander, Christopher Kane and Christian Louboutin to accentuate Lee’s aggressive returns, fluid follow-thru and even a moment of kittenish contemplation.

Winning Silhouettes at Harper’s Bazaar

HarpersBazaar Feb 2012_Richardson1

Stylist Brana Wolf culls from the Spring 2012 collections to create an athletic-inspired pictorial with photographer Terry Richardson in this month’s Harper’s Bazaar. Model Candice Swanepoel wears a wardrobe of flirty silhouettes from designers who work sportswear best – Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors. These sporty silhouettes kick into overtime when accessorized with racquets, balls, whistle necklaces, gloves, bold wrist cuffs and fencing gear.

Lacoste Lab Launches “Dream” Products

Lacoste Lab

Lacoste sees its innovation “Lab” as a link between the brand’s legendary past and its future. It’s not much of a stretch since founder, René Lacoste not only claims his place as a tennis champion and designer of the iconic polo shirt, but invented tennis rackets, golf clubs and bags, as well as a groundbreaking tennis-ball launching machine.

The collection of objects rely on a standard palette of white, black and green that gives them a striking effect altogether. And details, such as racket taping on the bike handles or the newsboy bicycle helmet, are a fitting use of the company’s brand language.

Design Director, Christophe Pillet, collaborated with a hand full of specialized companies to create “dream” products, including skis (Black Crows), an urban performance bicycle (Look), a boomerang (3B), cricket rackets, helmets, soccer and rugby balls (Mitre Sports UK) and a surfboard (J.P. Stark/Notox) and concept car with Citroën. Several clothing items – surf shorts, a sailing jacket and a wetsuit also made their way into the collection.

Colette, the trendsetting boutique on Rue Saint-Honoré launched an exclusive retail preview of the collection during this month’s busy fashion and interior design shows in Paris.
